At the annual Concurrences/Institute for Competition Law conference organised in Paris on 10 February, Martijn Han was awarded the Concurrences Thesis Award for his PhD thesis "Vertical Relations in Cartel Theory" .

Martijn wrote his PhD thesis at the Amsterdam Center for Law & Economics from 2007-2011 and defended it "cum laude" in September 2011. The Concurrences jury consisted of European Commission Hearing Officer Wils, Professors Idot and Prieto, and Google economist Millet, who "stressed the importance of a thesis that captures the vertical dimension of antitrust issues, and praised the way the series of articles forms a harmonious and coherent body of work".
